Violence and ignorance: the mass media finally realize the desperate situation faced by the Italian school. Yet the crisis in the general silence, had been reported for some time. The following article, which appeared in 1992 on a cultural news magazine, is the text of a speech made during a conference in Genoa made a year earlier. Because it documents the role, little known, covered by local authorities in the process of destruction of our school, it seems useful to present it anew to the attention of those to whom the task of rebuilding from the rubble.
